SUCCESS: 3rd Annual Pathology Research Day

2025 Research Day Posters

January 8, 2025 — The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine hosted its third annual Pathology Research Day on Friday, January 8, 2025, marking a highly successful gathering for researchers, faculty, and students. The event, attended by over 150 individuals, included a full day of platform presentations, an awards ceremony, and an array of posters showcasing all aspects of our investigative efforts, including basic, translational and clinical research.

This year’s event, hosted in Health Sciences Research Buildings I & II was a resounding success, drawing attention to the outstanding contributions made by the department's faculty, trainees, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. The day culminated in an awards program honoring the top research presented during the event.

Award recipients included:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award for Research in Experimental Pathology

      Eric Hunter, PhD
  • Lifetime Achievement Award for Research in Clinical and Experimental Pathology 
    • Andrew Neish, MD
  • Chair's Pick (Dr. Guido Silvestri Poster Award):

    • Jocelyn Jensen for her presentation on "Paraffin-Embedded Tissue Assessment Using Fluorescence-Imitating Brightfield Imaging (FIBI): A Rapid Alternative to Conventional Histopathology."
    • Christian Beusch for his research titled "Unraveling Signaling Networks in Primary T Cells Through Phosphoproteomics and Precision Genetics."
  • Trainee Poster Award:

    • Lalit Patel for his work on "Resolving a Relevant DPB1 Exon 3 Polymorphism by HLA Sequencing."
  • Graduate Student Poster Award:

    • Tyshawn Ferrell for his research, "Characterizing the Antigenic Landscape of DENV1 Using Serum from Infected and Vaccinated Patients."
  • Young Investigator Poster Award (and Top Poster):

    • Felipe ten Caten for his study on "Mechanisms of Inflammation Across Life Span in Individuals with Down Syndrome."
  • Postdoctoral Fellow Poster Award:

    • Diego A. Díaz-Dinamarca for his presentation, "The Role of Bile Acids in Antiviral Immunity and SARS-CoV-2 Clearance."
