Andrea was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. She attended Vanderbilt University where she majored in neuroscience and medicine, health and society. During college, she saw how health is impacted by not only biological, but also social and economic factors, and she wanted to combine public health and medicine in her career to make an impact both on an individual and population level. After college, Andrea worked at the National Institutes of Mental Health, where she helped evaluate PET radioligands as neuroinflammatory biomarkers in animals and humans. Then, she pursued an MD/MPH degree at the University of Miami. She worked with underserved populations through different student organizations and also became involved with advocacy. Andrea chose Emory due to its variety of subspecialty exposure, research opportunities, diverse patient populations and proximity to family. Outside of medicine, Andrea enjoys trying new recipes, rock climbing and board games.
