Esme was born in London, England, and grew up in Australia, Singapore and South England. She moved to the East Coast in 2015 to attend Harvard University, where she studied anthropology with a minor in global health and health policy. After graduating, she spent two years in Washington DC, working at a hospice and respite care home for individuals experiencing homelessness, living with advanced HIV/AIDS and terminal cancer. She went on to attend Duke University School of Medicine, where her interest in neurology was sparked early on by a wonderful research mentor who was a movement disorders specialist, and deepened during her month-long neurology clerkship. She also pursued a Master of Public Health degree at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health in the Population Health for Clinicians track. Esme chose Emory because she felt the program’s values of equity, advocacy and high-quality care were truly lived out by the faculty and residents she met during her interview and second-look weekend. Outside the hospital, she enjoys running (short distances at a slow-to-moderate pace), exploring new spots around Atlanta and spending time outdoors with her two dogs, Chance and Sage.
