Dr. Cassie Grimsley Ackerley, MD, MSc, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics in the Divisions of Infectious Diseases and Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Grimsley Ackerley received her MD from the Medical College of Georgia and completed her combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency training at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She came to Emory for subspecialty fellowship training in Adult and Pediatric Infectious Diseases and during fellowship, earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research degree. Dr. Grimsley Ackerley’s research focuses on better understanding the biological mechanisms that influence the immune response to mucosal HIV transmission, particularly among sexual and gender minority populations. In support of this work, she has received the Emory Center for AIDS Research (CFAR)-03 Mentored Research Award and was chosen as an Emory BIRCWH (Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health) scholar in 2021. As an advocate for the promotion of health and research priorities that benefit gender diverse and sexual minority populations, she also serves as a member of the Inter-CFAR Transgender Health Working Group and the Emory Department of Medicine’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) LGBTQ+ Affinity Group.
