Program Experience:
In the Emory-Nigeria D43 Training programme, I review trainees’ seed grant proposals in line with NIH guidelines. I am also a mentor to many seed grant winners including Ebere Herbertson whose study on “Hair-efavirenz level as a measure of long-term adherence to ART” has already been produced in a publication. Dr Roseline Aderemi Williams is advancing this work to monitor adherence issues using levels of TDF in hair in delicate adolescent and young adult females. Among others is Olubukola Ojo who is working on bone health particularly looking at the effects of oestrogen levels in postmenopausal women living with HIV/AIDS and predisposition to oral lesions including osteoporosis, burning mouth syndrome, xerostomia e.t.c. More importantly, she will evaluate the role of HIV and antiretroviral drugs as a modifier of bone health “via RANK/RANKL/OSTEOPROTEGERIN” on the teeth.
