
Assistant Program Director
Zanthia Wiley, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Emory Division of Infectious Diseases and Associate Vice Chair of RYSE (DEI) Initiatives in the Emory Department of Medicine. She is the 2024 President of the American Federation for Medical Research where the mission is to “develop and mentor tomorrow’s leaders in medical research”. She is MPI of INSPIRE (Infectious Diseases Summer Program Integrating Research at Emory) where undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds from across the US are mentored and provided opportunities to explore careers in ID research. She is also Atlanta Hub MPI of the multi-site NIH RECOVER (Long COVID) study, a co-investigator in several Emory clinical trials, and co-investigator in the Emory Vaccine and Treatment Evaluation Unit (VTEU). Her research interests include vaccinology, Long COVID, promoting vaccine confidence, and any ventures aiming to mitigate health inequities.
She is recipient of the Jonas A. Shulman Teacher of the Year Award (2018-2019) which is awarded by Emory Infectious Diseases fellows to a faculty member for excellence in teaching. She is an Emory Department of Medicine Distinguished Physician. She received the 2022 Golden Apple Teaching Award (Infectious Diseases) awarded by Emory Internal Medicine residents. She was selected as a 2022 and 2023 Atlanta Magazine Top Doc (in Infectious Diseases). She is also recipient of the 2023 Emory University Department of Medicine’s Diversity and Inclusion Award and recipient of a 2023 Emory University School of Medicine’s Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion Award.
