Prosper Okonkwo, MBBS, FWACP, FMCPH, is the founding Chief Executive Officer of APIN Public Health Initiatives, a leading Nigerian Public Health Non-Governmental Organization that evolved in 2007 from the Harvard T. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH), Boston’s Nigerian Project - the AIDS Prevention Initiatives. APIN currently manages more than 300,000 active clients on Anti-Retroviral Therapy and leveraging on systems built over the years, it also presently implements other public health challenges including Malaria, Tuberculosis, Nutrition, and health systems strengthening initiatives. Dr. Okonkwo remains affiliated with HSPH as a Visiting Scientist in the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases.
A 1982 graduate of the University of Ibadan Medical School, Dr. Okonkwo is a fellow of the National Postgraduate in Public Health and West African Colleges of Physicians (Community Health).
He is an Associate Professor in Community Medicine and Primary Health Care at Bingham University, Karu, Abuja, and is PI and co-PI on many active research projects.
Dr. Okonkwo has many publications in peer-reviewed journals and has co-edited and has many book chapters to his credit. He is married with children and a grandchild.
