Born in Delhi, India, Ashish was a beacon of love and light, effortlessly forming bonds with everyone he encountered. His genuine affection for his friends and family touched their hearts deeply, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.
Ashish valued education above all else. Despite having the potential for success in any field, he chose to embark on an academic journey that spanned several years. After earning a bachelor’s in engineering from Punjab Engineering College in Chandigarh, he pursued a Master’s in computer Systems Science from Louisiana State University, and later achieved his PhD in Computer Science from University of Southern California.
Following his extensive studies, Ashish began his professional career as a postdoctoral researcher and professor at Ohio State University. In 2008, he made the decision to relocate to Atlanta, where he became an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the Emory University School of Medicine. Until his untimely passing, Ashish dedicated himself wholeheartedly to his role, leaving an indelible impact on his students and colleagues.
Ashish possessed remarkable brilliance, yet he remained humble and never sought to boast about his accomplishments. He often said, “don't let anyone put me on a pedestal.” He was a selfless individual, always giving generously without expecting much in return. Ashish’s inherent nature was that of a mentor and a helper, continuously extending support to those around him. Renowned for his exceptional teamwork and unwavering dedication, he consistently went above and beyond what was expected of him.
Ashish was a fundamental cornerstone of the Department of Biomedical Informatics, from its inception to his passing. Over a decade of service, he supported our PhD program, our high performance computing facilities, and every faculty member who joined us. Ashish will be long remembered for the joy and support he brought to us all. We owe him so much. Rest in peace our friend!
