Henry begins Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Fellowship
Tracey Henry (medicine) was recently named a 2024–2025 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Health Policy Fellow. In early September, she began the program in Washington, D.C. She is one of seven health professionals in this fellowship, who will be working on health-related legislative and regulatory issues with members of Congress and the executive branch.

Brandt leads efforts that boosts smoking cessation referrals 20-fold
The Grady rheumatology clinic's Quit Connect initiative connected patients with smoking cessation resources that boosted referrals to the state quit line 20-fold. A total of 102 out of 550 rheumatology patients who smoked accepted referral to cessation resources as part of the program. Read more.

Four DOM faculty named recipients of the American College of Physicians' Masterships and National Awards
|
Congratulations to Department of Medicine faculty Jada Bussey-Jones, Carlos del Rio, Stacy Higgins and Kimberly Manning for being elected to Masterships from the American College of Physicians. This honor recognizes individuals with outstanding contributions to the practice of medicine, teaching, research, public service, leadership, and medical volunteerism. del Rio also received the John Phillips Memorial Award for Outstanding Work in Clinical Medicine.

Marcus Foundation awards $25.9 million to advance lifesaving stroke research at Emory and Grady
|
A transformative $25.9 million grant from The Marcus Foundation will accelerate pioneering research aimed at revolutionizing hemorrhagic stroke treatment. This major award will fund the Rapid Evacuation and Access of Cerebral Hemorrhage (REACH) trial and its companion REACH registry, led by Emory University School of Medicine and Grady Health System’s Marcus Stroke and Neuroscience Center. Gustavo Pradilla (neurosurgery) serves as co-principal investigator for REACH. Michael Frankel (neurology) is the director of the Marcus Stroke and Neuroscience Center. Read more.

Johnson named assistant director for Emory at Grady Wellbeing, Resilience and Flourishing
Rakiyah Johnson, MPH, CHES, is an alumna of Emory's Rollins School of Public Health, with over a decade of experience in public health and higher education. Her expertise includes health research, chronic illness survivorship, program evaluation, and strategic planning In her new role, she will collaborate with Nadine Kaslow (psychiatry and behavioral sciences), Director of Wellbeing, Resilience and Flourishing, to implement wellness initiatives for the Emory at Grady Flourishing Program, while also supporting professional development programming for faculty.

Emory Voting Policy
The University allows up to 4 hours paid time, as needed, for voting. This can be used either on Election Day or during Advance Voting. NEW! Emory employees can now also use the 4 hours of voting leave to volunteer at the 1599 Building Polling location. Be sure to check with your supervisor if you plan to use paid leave time to vote or volunteer.

The Emory at Grady POCUS course was held on September 25. Participants enhanced their diagnostic and procedural skills with Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS). This half-day, hands-on course taught image acquisition and interpretation across medical specialties.

Emory at Grady Women's Sexual Health Summit Recap
|
On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the inaugural Emory at Grady Women’s Sexual Health Summit was held hybrid at the Emory Steiner and Faculty Office Buildings on the Grady campus. This event was curated to create an engaging environment among clinicians, clinical researchers, community leaders and students representing the diversity in disciplines and approaches toward advancing women’s sexual health. More than 120 attendees were present in person and virtually, contributing to the summit’s success.

Call for Members: Emory at Grady Choir
|
Join the newly formed Emory at Grady Choir! All are welcome and encouraged to sing at events such as holiday celebrations, new faculty and staff welcome, awards ceremonies, etc. Our next performance will be the Emory at Grady holiday luncheon in early December, and we plan to have one rehearsal prior. Otherwise, rehearsals are brief, just 10-30 minutes before each performance, making it easy to participate. No prior experience needed—just a love for singing and connecting with colleagues. Monthly virtual meetings focus on collaborating on wellbeing initiatives, and we aim for broad representation from across Emory at Grady. Emory Flourishing at Grady survey findings
The Emory Flourishing at Grady Advisory Group launched a survey of healthcare workers’ well-being, stresses, and wellness preferences in spring 2024. The initiative was supported by a grant awarded by the Emory Medical Care Foundation, Inc. (EMCF) and led by Malavika Kapuria (medicine), Katherine Kohler (surgery), James O’Shea (emergency medicine), Michael Zdradzinski (emergency medicine), and Sophie Arkin, who are mentored by Michelle Lall (emergency medicine), Jason Schneider (medicine), and Nadine Kaslow (psychiatry and behavioral sciences). A total of 148 respondents completed the survey and consisted of faculty, staff, APP’s, and learners. View findings.
Call for Participants for Emory Flourishing at Grady Focus Groups
As a follow-up to the survey, we will conduct 60-minute virtual focus groups in which faculty, learners, APPs, and staff can offer further insights into work-related stressors and wellness preferences to help shape future wellness initiatives. Focus group details will be shared soon.
Programs for physicians
Faculty Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) provides a variety of free and confidential services designed to support the health and emotional well-being of Emory residents, fellows and faculty physicians. Services are provided by licensed mental health professionals and are designed to meet the unique needs of medical professionals. Learn more.
Grief and emotional support response services
