Jada Bussey-Jones Announced as President of the Society of General Internal Medicine

Jada Bussey-Jones (medicine) has been elected president of the Society of General Internal Medicine. She will serve a three-year term beginning at the 2023 annual meeting. Currently, Jada serves as the Chief of Grady General Medicine; Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the Department of Medicine and the Associate Dean of Professional Development for Emory School of Medicine at Grady.

Denise Jamieson Awarded American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Luella Klein Lifetime Achievement Award

Denise Jamieson (gynecology and obstetrics) 

was honored at the ACOG annual meeting with this award recognizing a member who has dedicated their life to women's health in a significant way. Dr. Luella Klein started the Maternal Fetal Medicine departments at Emory University and Grady Hospital and became the first woman to chair a medical school department at Emory in 1986.

Sheryl Heron Receives Inaugural Academy for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Medicine (ADIEM) Legacy Award

Sheryl Heron (emergency medicine) received the inaugural ADIEM Legacy Award. Going forward, the award will be known as the Sheryl Heron Legacy Award and will be presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated a sustained, long-term commitment to the principles of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion through scholarship, mentorship and leadership. Sheryl serves as the SOM Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer.

Aaron Lay Named Chief of Urology at Grady Health System

Aaron Lay (urology) has been named Chief of Urology for the Grady Health System. In addition to being a strong clinical leader, Aaron is well-recognized for his commitment to education. He is an exemplary mentor, and works diligently to increase the urology faculty presence at Grady Memorial Hospital.

NIH-funded Emory Clinical Trials Unit welcomes new principal investigators to help advance HIV/AIDS research

Igho Ofotokum (medicine) and Colleen Kelley (medicine) assumed leadership of the Emory Clinical Trials Unit as principal investigators in June. Ofotokum and Kelley are taking over for Jeffery Lennox (medicine) and Carlos del Rio (medicine) who oversaw the first three years of the project. Read more.

Join Us: Inaugural Emory at Grady Collaborative Learning Community

First meeting: August 10

The Emory at Grady faculty development team is pleased to announce the start of Collaborative Learning Communities (CLC). The inaugural CLC is Education. The Education CLC will meet monthly, but there is not an attendance requirement to participate. Faculty, learners and staff with similar interests are encouraged to join. Join here.

 

Congratulations to the 2023 Under-Represented in Medicine (URiM) Cohort   

Thirteen participants have been accepted into the upcoming URiM course in August. Participants represent various departments across SOM. During the course, faculty will receive information, resources and tools important for academic success.
