Bonsall named chief of Emory medical service at Grady
Joanna Bonsall (medicine) will oversee the Department of Medicine's clinical, research and educational initiatives at Grady. She will continue to foster a collaborative work environment working with partners from Grady, Emory University School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine, which promotes the development of faculty, advanced practice providers, residents, students and staff.

Watkins named Emory at Grady medical director for quality and process improvement
In this role, Stacey Watkins (medicine) will help oversee the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives for Emory at Grady providers and will be responsible for the design and communication of related quality reporting. Since 2022, she has served as the assistant site director for quality, patient safety and performance metrics.

del Rio elected to National Academy of Medicine Council
Carlos del Rio (medicine) has been elected to serve on the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Council for a second term. del Rio will serve as the NAM international secretary, working closely with the NAM president and governing council, and as liaison to the global academies of medicine and science.

Ackerley receives the Allen Thornell Political Advancement Award from Georgia Equality
Cassie Grimsley Ackerley (medicine) and their spouse, Ben Ackerley received the Allen Thornell Political Advancement Award from Georgia Equality. Georgia Equality shares, "The Ackerleys have been extremely active during legislative sessions, both becoming critical members of the strategy coordination team and working with elected officials to reduce the harm of anti-LGBTQ bills."

Congratulations to Tracey Henry
Congratulations to Tracey Henry (medicine) on her recent accomplishments. Henry was selected as the Associate Program Director to lead the Society of General Internal Medicine's Leadership in Health Policy Program. Also, she has been chosen for the 2024-2025 class of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Fellows (RWJF). The RWJF Health Policy Fellows program is the nation's most prestigious learning experience at the nexus of health, science and policy in Washington, D.C.

GUIDE at Grady program to pilot national dementia model
Gabriela Cohen (medicine) and her Emory at Grady geriatric team will lead the implementation of the GUIDE model at Grady. The new program will be based on one of the established comprehensive dementia care models by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Read more.

Green awarded Outstanding District Service Award by American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
Victoria Green (gynecology and obstetrics) was awarded for her efforts in District IV. Green led the Georgia section, providing valuable mentorship and serves as chair of Health Equity and Reflective Care.

Ogunniyi recognized for outstanding contribution on clinical trial
Modele Ogunniyi (medicine) and her research team were acknowledged for outstanding contributions to the DAPA ACT HF-TIMI 68 trial. Ogunniyi serves as Principal Investigator for the trial, which tests in-hospital initiation of dapagliflozin in patients who have been stabilized during hospitalization for acute heart failure.

Ahn named Vice Chair of Orthopaedics and Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Grady
Jaimo Ahn (orthopaedics) a surgeon-scientist-educator, is excited to begin his journey at Emory University as Professor, Vice Chair of Orthopaedics and Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Grady. He joins from the University of Michigan where he served as Gehring Professor and Associate Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery, Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Chief of Orthopaedic Trauma and member of Michigan's Academy of Medical Educators, Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation and Integrative Musculoskeletal Health Center.

Taylor new senior clinical business manager for the Department of Anesthesiology
Kenya Taylor has been with Emory since 2013, having worked in various sections across TEC and ESA during her time with the institution. She is excited to bring her knowledge in health care operations to the Emory at Grady anesthesia team.

Cohen new senior clinical business manager for the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics
Sydney Cohen has a background that includes significant experience in health care operations, with previous roles in clinic management at Emory Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Outpatient Imaging Radiology Centers. Most recently, Cohen excelled as the senior manager of clinic operations for the GYNOB practice at Emory Decatur Hospital.

Emory at Grady Women's Sexual Health Summit
|
September 5, 8 - 5 p.m., Hybrid
This summit will feature clinical and scientific advances in women's sexual health. Topics include HIV/STI prevention, HPV, gender-affirming care and more. The conference is designed for physicians, advance practice providers, nurses, pharmacists, clinical research staff and other health professionals who are actively involved in research or clinical care related to sexual health. Share Your Voice for Healing and Growing
|
As a part of the School of Medicine's strategic plan to design and implement an anti-racism educational curriculum, the Actionable Education Initiative (AEI) subcommittee on anti-racism is asking the SOM community to share a story or experience influenced by difference. Submissions can include stories of microaggressions, discrimination, harm, threat of harm, processing, healing or allyship. Learn more.

Faculty Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) provides a variety of free and confidential services designed to support the health and emotional well-being of Emory residents, fellows and faculty physicians. Services are provided by licensed mental health professionals and are designed to meet the unique needs of medical professionals. Learn more.
Grief and emotional support response services
