Kimberly Manning receives the Spirit of Atlanta Award
Kimberly Manning (medicine) was recognized by Atlanta City Council President Doug Shipman as a pillar in the community who impact the lives of people not only in Atlanta but also across the country. She was awarded the Spirit of Atlanta award for her role in inspiring other women, girls and all.

Jada Bussey-Jones awarded the Distinguished Medical Achievement Award
Jada Bussey-Jones (medicine) was awarded the Distinguished Medical Achievement Award by the Emory University School of Medicine Alumni. This award is conferred upon an individual who has achieved distinction in research, teaching, medical practice, or administration in an academic or public institution.

Nanette Wenger featured in American Heart Association article
Nanette Wenger (medicine) is highlighted for her career spanning seven decades. Her numerous contributions to cardiovascular medicine are spotlighted, including her recognition that heart disease behaves differently in women than in men. Read article.

Sandra Wong, MD, MS, has joined Emory as the new dean of the School of Medicine. She is an international leader in surgical oncology, specializing in the management of soft tissue sarcomas, melanoma, and non-melanoma skin cancers, and a globally recognized health services researcher. Wong previously served as chair of the Department of Surgery at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and professor of surgery in the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Read more.

Emory at Grady Advocacy Collaborative Learning Community Meeting

The Emory at Grady Advocacy Collaborative Learning Community will meet on April 29. This meeting will include a presentation on the importance of advocacy as a core component of your role as a clinician by Tracey L. Henry (medicine). Shub Agrawal (medicine) will also describe the key role of storytelling in clinician advocacy efforts. Faculty, learners, and staff with an interest in advocacy are encouraged to attend. Register.

The Emory at Grady Education Collaborative Learning Community will meet on May 7. This meeting will include a presentation on educational assessment by Katie Gielissen (medicine). Lakshmi Tummala (medicine) will also share lessons learned and tips about qualitative research. Faculty, learners, and staff with an interest in education are encouraged to attend. Register.

Registration for this year’s Diversity and Inclusion Week is now open. This year’s theme, From Being to Belonging, seeks to advance the results from last year’s Diversity Engagement Survey (DES) which showed an increased demand for a better sense of belonging among our School of Medicine community.
