Office of the Dean header

Dear colleagues:

Well, it’s been a bit more than 3 months for me here at Emory School of Medicine and I am thrilled to be here. As I’ve been meeting faculty, staff and learners across the SOM, a topic that comes up frequently is communication--and for good reason. Effective communication is critical to achieving our goals and furthering our mission.

With that in mind, I write to highlight some of the communication channels we already have in place, to provide an update on what to expect from me and my office moving forward and to request your input on ways we might improve.

Primary SOM internal communication channels

  • The Huddle
The most important operational and strategic updates from the dean’s office will be captured in the Huddle, plus updates and events from our departments and the broader university community. The Huddle goes out every other Tuesday to all SOM faculty and staff, including residents and fellows. This message goes out from the SOM Communications Office email address (SOMCommunications@emory.edu).

  • Team Emory Medicine
Team Emory Medicine shines a spotlight on our people and the important contributions each one of you makes in furthering our tripartite mission. Team Emory Medicine goes out the last Friday of every month to all SOM. This message also goes out from the “SOM Communications Office” email address (SOMCommunications@emory.edu).

  • Inside Emory School of Medicine: inside.med.emory.edu
    (Emory login/password required)
Our School of Medicine intranet is a central spot for employee-focused information and resources, including policies and procedures, tools and updates from SOM administrative offices and links to department-level intranet sites. The latest updates from the Huddle email are always featured on the home page, and you can find previous emails posted in a message archive.

  • Messages from the School of Medicine Dean’s Office
We will reserve the OfficeofSOMDean@emory.edu email address for messages directly from me to our SOM community. You will hear from me by email approximately once per month, and more often as needed. All messages from the dean's office will also be posted online. And of course, good communication is bidirectional. I hope to encourage opportunities for dialogue and conversation and will continuously look for ways to support our people and help to bring our community together.

I also want to hear from you. If you have feedback about SOM communications or ideas about ways we can improve, please take 5 minutes to provide feedback.

Provide Feedback

Thank you for all you do for our learners, our patients and our community.
