Dear colleagues:
We are pleased to announce that Lynn Marie Trotti, MD, MSc, has accepted the position of director of the Emory Sleep Center, effective September 1. She will be succeeding Dr. Nancy Collop, who is retiring on September 8 after 15 years of visionary leadership in building and advancing the Emory Sleep Center into a nationally recognized program.
Dr. Trotti brings deep experience as a clinician, researcher and national leader in sleep medicine. She holds an academic appointment as associate professor of neurology and serves as associate fellowship director of the Emory Sleep Medicine fellowship and director of the sleep medicine rotation for non-sleep trainees.
She earned her MD from Baylor College of Medicine, MSc from Emory University and BA from Rice University. Dr. Trotti has been part of the Emory community for more than 20 years, beginning with her postgraduate training. She completed her internship in internal medicine at the SOM in 2004, followed by a neurology residency and chief residency and then a fellowship in sleep medicine in 2008.
Her research, supported by the NIH, focuses on hypersomnia and narcolepsy. She has contributed greatly to Emory’s groundbreaking research on idiopathic hypersomnia and leads and collaborates on a broad range of projects examining sleep and neurologic disease, including the evaluation of sleep in Parkinson’s disease and investigations into restless legs syndrome. Her collaborations often span local, national and international research networks.
In addition to her scientific work, Dr. Trotti is deeply committed to education and career development. At Emory and through national organizations, she has led and contributed to a variety of teaching, leadership and mentorship initiatives. She currently serves as President of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) Foundation and is a member of the AASM Board of Directors, having held leadership roles with both organizations for more than 15 years.
We also want to take this opportunity to recognize and thank Dr. Nancy Collop, professor of medicine and neurology in the Department of Medicine, division of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine, with a joint appointment in the Department of Neurology, and director of the Emory Sleep Center since 2010.
Since joining Emory, Dr. Collop has played a pivotal role in developing a robust interdisciplinary sleep medicine program grounded in clinical excellence, innovation and education. Her efforts have expanded the center’s clinical reach, research initiatives and fellowship training, positioning the Emory Sleep Center as one of the nation’s premier programs.
Under her leadership, Emory centralized previously independent services such as sleep labs and durable medical equipment and expanded access through new clinics at Emory Johns Creek Hospital in 2021 and Emory Decatur Hospital in 2024. She also led the development of specialized programs to serve complex sleep patients, including those with refractory hypersomnia, neuromuscular conditions and other advanced needs. Her impact on the specialty and the Emory community will be felt for years to come.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Trotti on her new role and celebrating Dr. Collop’s many achievements and well-deserved retirement.
Best,
Penny and Sandra
