Dear colleagues:
In partnership with the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research (SVPR), I’m writing to provide additional guidance and reminders on items related to our research mission.
Federal inquiries
As a reminder, if you receive a request for information from the NIH or other federal agencies, please contact Lisa Carlson (Lisa.carlson@emory.edu) and Holly Sommers (hsomme2@emory.edu). Please do not respond individually to the inquiries; responses will be centrally managed by the SVPR office in collaboration with the Office of General Counsel and the Office of Government and Community Affairs (OGCA).
Opportunities to continue research
Whether or not your research has been impacted by recent federal directives, this guidance from SVPR outlines opportunities to diversify your research funding portfolio, tips to help you advocate effectively for your science, and other helpful university resources. The guidance also covers steps you can take if your study has been terminated, including considerations for appeals (which are managed centrally by SVPR, understanding that federally funded awards are granted to Emory University and not to individual investigators).
Communication and advocacy
If you choose to engage in advocacy, I strongly encourage you to partner with Emory’s Office of Government and Community Affairs; they can provide guidance and support. Keep in mind that all members of the Emory community may express their political opinions and engage in political activities, but it is very important that you only do so as an individual and avoid the appearance that you are speaking or acting on behalf of the University on political matters. Be sure that you are not using Emory resources or wearing Emory attire when advocating in a personal capacity.
Please know how much I appreciate your continued dedication to our shared missions. Thank you.
Sandra
