Dear colleagues:
I am pleased to announce that C. Arturo Solares, MD, has been named chair of the Department of Otolaryngology, effective immediately. Dr. Solares is a professor of otolaryngology and has served as interim chair since July 2023, during which time he provided outstanding leadership, driving multiple strategic initiatives that have positioned the department for continued growth. These efforts include the expansion of the Otolaryngology residency program, the launch of a multidisciplinary Skull Base clinic, and redesign of the faculty compensation structure. As chair, Dr. Solares is committed to furthering the department’s growth and ensuring it remains a leader in the region.
Dr. Solares has been an integral member of the Emory faculty since 2016. He is internationally recognized for his expertise in skull base surgery, having contributed to advancements in the field and been invited to speak in more than 20 different countries. His research areas of interest include surgical simulation/applied anatomy and perineural spread of cutaneous malignancies. He also plays a leadership role in the North American Skull Base Society.
Dr. Solares earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala City. He completed residency at Cleveland Clinic and has fellowship training from the Queensland Skull Base Unit at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, Australia, and the Center for Cranial Base Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.
