To all School of Medicine faculty 

 

Dear colleagues,  

 

Today, we celebrate your vital roles as educators and clinicians. Three critical aspects of your work as educators are teaching, mentorship, and a commitment to diversity. In the classroom, in the lab, and at the bedside, you shape the future of clinical providers and scientists. The Dean’s Teaching Award honors your innovative and effective teaching methods with our learners.  

 

Mentorship is another cornerstone of your contributions as an educator. It’s through your guidance that learners and early-career colleagues find pathways to success. The Mentoring Award recognizes faculty who have exemplified exceptional mentorship, nurturing the next generation of talent while the Preceptor of the Year Award honors faculty members who make outstanding contributions to medical student education.  

 

Our school remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are vital to excellence in education, research, and patient care. I am proud to work alongside colleagues who prioritize inclusivity, and I’m excited to honor those recognized with this year’s Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award.  

 

We also celebrate Excellence in Patient Care, which acknowledges our dedicated clinicians who provide exceptional clinical training to learners while providing compassionate, skilled care to their patients. Additionally, our affiliated health care institutions created Site-Based Awards to honor faculty who have made important contributions to patient care at their clinical sites. 

 

Lastly, the new Innovations in Clinical Care Award recognizes faculty who exemplify visionary approaches to problem-solving, performance improvement, and clinical program development in our health care setting.  

 

I am grateful for the dedication of our educators and outstanding clinicians, as well as those who strive to create a more inclusive culture within the School of Medicine.
