Dear colleagues:
I am pleased to announce that Benjamin Stoff, MD, MA, has accepted the role of chair of the Department of Dermatology, effective immediately. Dr. Stoff is associate professor of dermatology and has been serving as interim chair since July 2023. During his tenure as interim chair, Dr. Stoff and his leadership team achieved 3-year high marks for the department in patient access, clinical sites, service lines offered, faculty recruitment, sense of belonging scores, size of the residency program and education leadership team, clinical trials enrollment and grant submissions.
Dr. Stoff practices general dermatology and dermatopathology, with a subspecialty focus on melanoma. He also practices teledermatology through the Atlanta VA Health System. In 2016, Dr. Stoff earned a Master of Arts in Bioethics from the Emory Center for Ethics, where he currently holds an appointment as Senior Faculty Fellow. He served as co-director of the ethics track for residents and fellows through the Emory Office of Graduate Medical Education and is co-editor of the textbook “Dermatoethics, 2nd Edition.” He is also editor-in-chief of Dialogues in Dermatology, the official CME podcast of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Stoff is actively involved in global health, serving on the Advisory Committee for the Emory Global Health Residency Scholars Program and chairing the Dermatology Steering Committee of Health Volunteers Overseas, a non-profit organization that facilitates international teaching assignments for dermatologists and other health care professionals. He has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and several book chapters.
Dr. Stoff completed his MD degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, graduating AOA. He completed dermatology residency at Emory, where he served as chief resident, and dermatopathology fellowship at Emory.
I look forward to seeing the department continue its positive trajectory under Dr. Stoff’s leadership. Join me in congratulating him and welcoming him as chair.
My best,
Sandra
