Message sent on behalf of Joshua A. Barwick, Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs Administration

Dear friends:

I am writing to let you know that after more than 10 years of outstanding service in the School of Medicine Dean’s Office, our valued colleague Zainab Harvey has decided to step away. Zainab’s last day at Emory will be August 2, 2024.

Zainab has been an outstanding leader for the School of Medicine, making many contributions that will continue to benefit us into the future. She joined the Dean’s Office in 2013 after graduating from Emory Law. Initially focusing on industry relations, she quickly progressed through increasingly responsible positions, with involvement in a broad array of Dean’s Office functions. Her rapid advancement culminated in her appointment last year as Director, Faculty Affairs Administration. Among other things, Zainab has developed and streamlined efficient processes for prompt review of proposed faculty external activities; led significant revision of the SOM’s principal policies around industry relationships; and provided creative and expert support of numerous groundbreaking initiatives enabling individual faculty to develop fruitful professional relationship with outside entities.

Among those who have worked closely with Zainab, she is known for her formidable knowledge of faculty-related policies, her collaborative spirit, her cultivation of productive relationships across the University, and her commitment to helping all of us achieve our professional goals.

I am especially grateful to Zainab for working with us to facilitate a smooth transition. With Zainab’s departure, Nicole Tannebaum will step into the role of Director, Faculty Affairs Administration. Nicole’s JD degree is from Emory Law and her MSPH is from the Rollins School of Public Health. Before coming to Emory in 2020, Nicole held compliance-related positions at MIT and Georgia Tech. A former Director of the Research Conflict of Interest Office at Emory, Nicole was recruited to the SOM in December 2023 as Assistant Director, Faculty Affairs Administration. With the benefit of Zainab’s tutelage and her own formidable skills and dedication to excellence, Nicole is well-suited to her new role.

Nicole will be ably supported by Grace Ahn, who came to our group in May from the Fulton County Magistrate Court. Grace is our new Manager, Faculty Affairs Administration and will work primarily in the area of industry relationships.

Please join me in thanking Zainab and wishing her well; congratulating Nicole on her new role; and welcoming Grace to the SOM.

Josh
