Dear SOM leaders:

I am pleased to announce that Ravi Rajani, MD, professor of surgery, has accepted the role of Executive Associate Dean (EAD), Emory at Grady, effective June 1, 2024. He currently serves as the Assistant Dean for Medical Education for Emory at Grady and has been the interim EAD for Emory at Grady since March 2023. He has previously served as the chief of vascular and endovascular surgery at Grady and co-director of The Grady Heart and Vascular Center.

As EAD, Dr. Rajani serves as the primary liaison between Emory School of Medicine, Grady Health System and Morehouse School of Medicine at Grady. He is chair of the board of the Emory Medical Care Foundation and the principal executive physician for Emory School of Medicine on the Grady campus. He provides executive oversight and strategic direction for Emory School of Medicine’s clinical, research, and teaching missions at Grady.

Under Dr. Rajani’s leadership as interim EAD, the number of faculty practicing at Grady increased overall while vacancies were reduced through partnership with department leaders to recruit and retain faculty. Research funding for Emory at Grady programs has increased significantly, with more than $250k recently committed to internal programmatic development. He has established a new Director of Wellbeing, Resiliency, and Flourishing role to support Emory at Grady faculty and staff and has overseen continued growth in GME training programs at Grady.

As EAD, Dr. Rajani will lead Emory’s participation in the upcoming renewal of our affiliation agreement with Grady. He will also continue efforts to build infrastructure for Emory research at Grady and to increase administrative support for faculty. He is a tireless advocate for the health care needs of our community, particularly patients at Grady, and is equally dedicated to supporting our physicians, advanced practice providers, trainees, and students across all aspects of our shared missions.

Dr. Rajani joined Emory in 2011 as the inaugural chief of vascular and endovascular surgery at Grady and has been instrumental in growing the service line to its current state. He has led numerous clinical trials at Grady, which have primarily focused on endovascular control of vascular trauma, management of peripheral arterial disease, and novel methods of dialysis access creation. Dr. Rajani has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, textbooks, and multidisciplinary grants. He currently serves on the editorial leadership of both the Journal of Vascular Surgery and Annals of Vascular Surgery and represents Emory on the leadership of multiple national vascular surgical societies.

There is no one better positioned to lead Emory SOM into the next phase of our important relationship with Grady. Join me in congratulating and thanking Dr. Rajani.

Sandra
