Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce an exciting leadership transition for Scott D. Boden, MD. Effective January 1, 2025, I have asked Dr. Boden to assume the new position of Chief Partnership and Innovation Officer (CPIO) for the Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC), which will report to me and serve on the executive leadership teams of both WHSC and Emory Healthcare (EHC). Due to the expanded nature of this role, he will step down as chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and EHC Chief Strategy Officer. He will continue to serve as Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Emory University School of Medicine, and will also serve as Vice Chair for Professional Development to continue career mentoring of clinical and research faculty.
As CPIO, Dr. Boden will be responsible for identifying, implementing, and managing key strategic internal and external partnerships. He will lead both the development of new partnership opportunities and the expansion of existing partnerships and associated new business strategies and structures. Dr. Boden will also continue to oversee the Emory Healthcare Innovation Hub in close collaboration with Emory Digital to maximize external corporate partnership opportunities, accelerate internal innovation, and strengthen the culture and processes for innovation within WHSC and EHC.
Dr. Boden joined Emory in 1992 as an orthopaedic spine surgeon and clinician scientist. He has effectively been building and leading what has evolved into the musculoskeletal service line for the past 28 years. He has overseen a tripling in the size of the service line, was the impetus behind the Emory University Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital (EUOSH), and most recently was the driver of the Emory Musculoskeletal Institute. During his tenure, he has served Emory as chair of the Department of Orthopaedics, inaugural Chief Strategy Officer for Emory Healthcare, director of the Emory Orthopaedics & Spine Center, Chief Medical Officer/Chief Quality Officer of EUOSH, and Vice President of Business Innovation and Strategic Partnership Development for Emory Healthcare. As Chairman of the Board of Managers of The Emory Healthcare Network, he also is engaged with oversight of Emory’s clinically integrated network of more than 3,400 employed and community physicians. In addition, Dr. Boden has been responsible for developing and maintaining Emory’s long-term relationships with Atlanta’s professional sports teams including the Falcons (NFL), Hawks (NBA), Braves (MLB), and Dream (WNBA).
Strategic partnerships are integral to advancing the tripartite mission of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center. Working together across institutions and industries amplifies our impact on our community and the people we serve. I am delighted that Dr. Boden has accepted this position and I look forward to seeing all that he will accomplish as our inaugural Chief Partnership and Innovation Officer.
Sincerely,
Ravi
