March 27, 2026

Dear colleagues:

As the School of Medicine continues to grow, our communications and marketing support must keep pace—ensuring that the groundbreaking work happening across our school is shared consistently and with impact.

In late 2025, we promoted Jen King to Executive Administrator and Vice President of Communications. In this role, she serves on both the Emory School of Medicine and Emory Healthcare leadership teams, creating stronger alignment and consistency across our academic health system.

Working closely with dean’s office leaders and with Molly Biwer, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for Emory Healthcare, Jen is leading the development of a new team structure that will drive internal clarity, strengthen how we tell our story, and champion the tripartite mission.

Below, she shares some of the exciting things ahead in this month’s spotlight.

Q: What should we expect with a new communications structure in the SOM?

First, I want to acknowledge the hardworking and talented communicators across the School of Medicine, Woodruff Health Sciences, and Emory University whose efforts have enhanced our reputation and established a strong foundation for continued success. Looking ahead, we are focused on modernizing and elevating communications by building deeper capability, improving consistency and quality, and ensuring communications investments will yield measurable outcomes. We are building a unified, integrated team of strategic communicators who can meet the needs of departments today and respond nimbly to the challenges and opportunities of the future. Every department in the School of Medicine will have communications support, and our team will apply consistent tools, templates, standards and processes to help each department achieve its objectives.

Q: What are you most excited about in 2026?

The School of Medicine will be undergoing a strategic refinement of our brand in the coming months, including new visual elements and updated messaging, and I’m excited for the opportunity to refocus on what makes Emory School of Medicine unique. I’m also excited to partner more closely with communications and marketing colleagues across our academic health system. I’m already seeing examples of how increased alignment will strengthen the support we provide—for example, we’re exploring ways to make faculty profiles seamless across websites. We are also working to integrate more research content into patient communications, highlighting our academic distinction.

It’s a busy time for you! How do you take a break and refresh?

Whenever I can, I get outside to hike or run—I recently fell in love with the trails in Sedona, Arizona. My kids (17 and 12) keep me laughing and grounded, and some of my best ideas come to me while I’m walking my 11-year-old hound.

Thank you to our department leaders for your continued partnership as we work together to strengthen communications in the School of Medicine. We look forward to sharing additional updates in the months ahead.

My best,

Sandra
